Absence makes the heart grow fonder, but silence completely puts out the last smoldering embers of love making it colder. That's what the chiming clock has taught me along the way.

  1. Sometimes, just when you convince yourself that the fires are all gone out, some chance event - a dream, a memory, a song - shows you the error of your thoughts, and sets it all alight again. Painfully so.

    1. Hey Jack, as much as I hate to admit this, I'm afraid you are right. Well, at least in a way...
      Of course, there's always that one strange dream, that one sad song, that one crazy memory that *occasionally* sets the broken pieces of your heart back on fire. But the defeaning sound of silence keeps you from sustaining serious burns. (It keeps you from hoping).
